MS Built Environment July 2017
Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ GPA: 3.73 / 4.00, in top 10%
Thesis: Machine learning applications for stock level building energy related policy decisions BTech Civil Engineering May 2014
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Ahmedabad, India CPI 7.49 / 10.00, in top 5%
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Research Engineer (GitHub profile: https://github.com/mpathak24)
2018ā€“Present National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Residential Buildings, Golden, CO
Programming: Python | Ruby | Cloud computing | CLI programming | Data visualization | Version control
Packages used: SQLite, SciPy, NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, Dask, Seaborn
ā€¢ Developed scalable, data-based, probabilistic decision-making tools for individual, and stock-level whole-
building energy models that include varied metadata, massing, faƧade, and system-level granularity.
ā€¢ Conducted time-series simulations and parametric variations of these models, boosted the deployment of a
large amount of data for validating the solutions using optimization algorithms and statistical models for the
techno-economic analysis of the output of the energy models.
ā€¢ Scraping, Cleaning, Merging, and Analyzing data from simulation and measurement sources and providing
custom tools to apply statistical methods dynamically and automatically generating plots and reports.
ā€¢ Developing production-ready codes based on convex optimization, regression, and classification algorithms
to generate automated workflows utilizing cloud computing to post-process the energy simulation results,
including time-series calibration and data visualization.
ā€¢ Performed software development, testing using Python and Ruby languages that utilize an XML language
based schema (HPXML) for the weatherization assistance program (WAP, DoE) to make a smooth
transition to a web-based, computationally accurate building energy auditing tool.

Sustainability Analyst
2016ā€“2017 School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, ASU
ā€¢ Conducted an energy audit for a ļ¬tness center (~25,000 Sq. Ft) located in Phoenix suburban area;
analyzed the indicators for poor building energy performance; proposed low-cost energy conservation
measures; analyzed the feasibility of the on-site energy generation.
